Actor Angie Harmon has filed a lawsuit against Instacart and a former Instacart shopper who fatally shot her dog in March while delivering groceries at her North Carolina home. The lawsuit was filed last week in Mecklenburg County. It seeks to hold the shopper and Instacart liable for accusations of trespassing, gross negligence, emotional distress and invasion of privacy, among other allegations. Police say the shopper told them he shot the dog after it attacked him. Instacart says it immediately suspended the shopper then later removed him permanently. The company says it runs comprehensive background checks on its shoppers.

More youths accused of serious crimes in North Carolina would be automatically tried in adult court in legislation that advanced through the state Senate. The measure approved Wednesday reworks some of the bipartisan juvenile justice reforms that ended in late 2019 the mandate that 16- and 17-year-olds be tried in the adult criminal justice system. The bill’s chief proponent says the changes will ease backed-up juvenile court caseloads for prosecutors by putting matters that ultimately will end up in adult Superior Court immediately there instead. Some critics fear this is a step toward dismantling the “Raise the Age” reforms. The bill now heads to the House.

Five NHL players left their teams this season to receive care from an off-ice assistance program run by the league and union. That's the same number that entered the program the previous three seasons combined. Officials believe the increase can be credited to a growing trust in the program that has been around since 1996 and also mirrors the general population getting help since the pandemic. The venture offers assistance for drug and alcohol use as well as mental health issues. Colorado defenseman Samuel Girard says it changed his life.
